Tequila is a spirit distilled from the blue agave plant – made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands of the western Mexican state of Jalisco.
BLANCO or PLATA [white or silver], or “unaged tequila”. This is tequila straight out of the still.
JOVEN or ORO [gold], often called “mixto”, meaning it is a mixture of agave and other sugars
REPOSADO, or “rested” tequila. Reposado tequilas have been aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two months.
ANEJO, or “aged” tequila. Aged a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels. The extra time and contact with wood adds a stronger oak flavor to the tequila, and deepens its color.
